Worried about our democracy? Want to do more and worry less? Do you have legible handwriting and time to write some postcards? Join us!
Each year we write postcards for state legislative candidates in close races in critical swing districts. Postcards can help increase name recognition and get out the vote. State leg races are won by narrow margins so every voter contact counts.
We've been writing postcards since 2019. One recent example was in 2025, when we wrote 8000 postcards for two Virginia candidates and both won, giving Virginia a Democratic state government trifecta!
Whether you're an experienced postcarder or you are taking your first step into political activism, we have all the details you need to get started postcarding from home.

Who do I write? The information packet will contain a list of names and addresses for you to hand write on a postcard.
What do I say? The information packet will have a script approved by the campaign that we follow exactly. We are allowed to add colored boxes or highlights to emphasize the candidate’s name, vote date or other key points.
How many? We ask for people to sign up in increments of 25. If you want to do less, find a friend to do them with you!
How do I get a packet? After signing up, you can pick up your information on a front porch in the Sacramento area. If that is a difficulty, we can arrange a delivery or alternate pick up spot.
How do I return cards? Same process in reverse … either drop off at the same spot or let us know if you need a pick-up.
What cards do I use? We encourage purchasing generic postcards with neutral images, especially general "Vote" messages, as pictured above.
Tips for newbies? We have a one-page document with Postcard Writing Tips for new writers and also useful reminders for returning writers. You can request by e-mail.
How to sign up? E-mail us at postcardteam.sdp.sac@gmail.com indicating your interest and as soon as we have a postcard event or campaign sign-up available, we will send you an e-mail with the details.

What stamps do I use? Forever postcard stamps are currently 61 cents each, but if approved will go up again in July, 2026. Postcard stamps purchased at previous prices are still good. They are all "forever" stamps. You can order them at this link or go to your local post office. Order Stamps
